The Funhouse Commons serves the urgent needs of young people and strengthens
community bonds by providing a safe and stimulating environment
where all can learn, discover, create, socialize, and be heard.
We were so thrilled by the amazing creations from all the contestants who entered our Gingerbread Contest! Go and check out the winning creations displayed at Orcas Island Market this week. Congratulations to everyone, and thank you to all the judges, staff and volunteers who helped make this happen, the anonymous donor who graciously contributed the prize money, and Island Market and Orcas Center for their support. We’re looking forward to doing it again next year!
*We are currently closed to the public due to the COVID resurgence. Please stay tuned for more information as we re-evaluate for January 2021*
This fall, we assisted island children with their online education by providing a safe, nurturing space for learning while their parents worked.

IT'S A GREAT TIME TO BE A MENTOR!
Ali, 31 and Serafina, 13 have been matched for about 2 years now. Serafina was involved in other programs at the Funhouse and eventually became aware of the mentor program. “One of my favorite things about having a mentor is having someone to talk to”, says Serafina, and Ali wholeheartedly agrees!
As part of their agreement through the Funhouse mentor program, they have committed to spend at least 4 hours a month together, doing an activity of their choice. At the beginning of COVID things changed for a bit and they were meeting virtually once a week. Now, they are able to safely get out again and are enjoying nature walks, either on the trails or beaches.
We’re celebrating 20 years of existence! Learn how we began and how we’ve transformed to meet the needs of our community.
