




Music Classes

Music with Miss Mary is a mixed-age, developmentally-appropriate class for babies and children up to age 5 and their caregivers. Led by Miss Mary, each class encourages active participation and learning of both kids and parents or parental figures through play, song, movement & dance, and rhythm instruments. Mary has been teaching music and movement classes for little ones since 2009 at the Funhouse, and this is one of the longest standing and well-loved classes we offer!

This class is for kids in grades 1-4 who want to learn the violin and have fun with other kids doing it! All the basics will be covered - how to hold the violin and bow, how to take care of your violin, basic plucking, bowing, and playing in time with others, and finally playing a song or two. Parents are encouraged to sit in so they can help students in their musical journey. Taught by Mary Wachter who has 30+ years of experience playing and 13 years as a teacher.

This class is for kids in grades 3-6 who have some experience with the violin and know how to play a song or two. This is still a beginners class, but it’s for students who have some knowledge of bowing and the proper posture and technique. Want to brush up on your skills and learn some more songs? Then this is the right class for you! Taught by Mary Wachter who has 30+ years of experience playing and 13 years as a teacher.

Ukulele 1 Class is for kids in grades 2-5. This is a class for absolute beginners and the perfect place to learn all the basics. The ukulele is a great starter instrument with only four strings that are easy on the fingers and a small body, which makes them perfect for kids! Ukuleles will be provided, but if you have your own, please feel free to bring it to class.

Ukulele Class is for kids in Grades 3-6 who already play ukulele and have a little experience. Perhaps you know a few chords but want to get faster on your changes and learn some new songs! Ukuleles will be provided, but if you have your own, please feel free to bring it to class.

Kids' Chorus is for all kids ages 6-12 who like to sing. We will sing both popular and traditional, well-known favorites, and may even write our own songs! Participants will explore parts-singing and be introduced to harmony. Funhouse Staff will pick the kids up at the school and bring them to the Funhouse for Kids' Chorus. Bring your singing voice and a water bottle, and be ready to learn and have fun! Kids' Chorus is a collaboration between the Music Advocacy Group and the Funhouse Commons.

This is an all-female, electric guitar and bass class for both beginners and players who want to increase their skills and play in a group of supportive women. This class is taught by Mary Wachter, aka Feral Mary, a local musician who has years of experience playing in bands and is working on her second album. Instruments will be provided if the student doesn't have their own.

For kids in 3rd through 6th grade, this class is a great way to learn the basics of guitar, including simple chords, progressions, strum patterns, and easy songs. Guitars are provided by the Funhouse. Join in the fun, and meet this awesome instrument that may become your life-long friend!

Acquire the secrets of songwriting from a published musician with 20+ years of experience, and get access to instruments and a modern recording studio! There will be two classes per week geared towards students ages 11-19. Led by local music educator and performer, Pedro LopezDeVictoria, SongLab will take students through the process of song-craft, from abstract ideas to a finished and publishable recording!

Ableton Live is a digital audio workspace (DAW) capable of recording, producing, and mixing songs so they can be shared with the world. This powerful computer software is a favorite among many artists, including Daft Punk and Tame Impala. In this 6-week workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of the program and its applications across a diverse range of musical styles. Kai has been using Ableton to record hip-hop, rock, electronic, metal, and even classical, since the age of 16. The Funhouse offers an array of computers, microphones, instruments, and all the necessary equipment for a professional recording. Students will learn to utilize these tools to enhance their creative process. By the end of this class, attendees will gain the knowledge to record their own songs and embark on the next stage of their musical journey.

Interested in beat-making or DJ-ing? Want to learn some tools of the trade and dive in to hip hop, electronic music, sampling, and mixing? This group is FREE and open every Monday to all interested teens, at the new Funhouse music studio, with DJ Teachers Pet. Join the club to help plan for a DJ set at the Halloween Party and possible Beats Night at the Peach Pit.
